EEXI(Energy Efficient Exist Ship Index)

MEPC 75 approved EEXI, MEPC 76 will adopt and it will entry into force on 1^st Jan 2023.
EEXI : Reduction of carbon intensity 40% until 2030 and 70% until 2050 compared to 2008.

Generally, there are three(3) solutions to meet EEXI for exist ship.
1. Change fuel to less carbon intensity one. Conversion to DF Engine is required.
    -> Expected cost of DF Conversion(LNG) : USD 20M for VLCC // Not realistic
2. Apply Energy Saving device // It needs to wait for the feasible technology.
3. Engine Power Limit(EPL) // It is most realistic option to meet EEXI

Again, Ship owners seem to have headache in deciding which option would be better
between VLSFO or HSFO(+Scrubber system). And owners have to consider EEXI
as well from now on. Some owners who decided SOx scrubber system in 2018 will
complete payback time middle of 2021 and after that, then they can get profit with
Scrubber system from fuel cost(Oil spread). Its owners can relatively affordably consider
new technologies that meet EEXI by additional profit from fuel cost.
