For open loop type scrubber system, some owners are concerned about extension of ban on washwater discharges in ports. How about you?
Let me tell you “It is wrong understanding, if you think ban area effect
to Scrubber
operation. Scrubber is born for using at open sea!!”
A. What is reason to install scrubber system?
It is to save fuel cost as much as oil
spread(USD) x consumption rate(Ton)
B. How much fuel does a
vessel use in port(including maneuvering) and open sea?
ie) Capesize bulk carrier, PCTC, Panamax
size(or above) Container carrier.
Open sea : 30~60ton/day in about
30~40 days(Maximum about 2,000ton)
Near/In Port : ~
5ton/day in about 1~3 days(Maximum about 15ton only)
Maximum consumption rate is less than half day consumption at open sea
C. In port, ship’s crew’s
load & unnecessary attention from PSC.
Cargo
operation
During
cargo operation, let ship’s crews focus on cargo operation only without
additional
work load from Scrubber. They are already on additional high
work
load due to operation of Ballast Water Treatment System.(Frequent alarm??!!)
PSC’s
attention
If Scrubber system is operating, it can
draw PSC’s attention.
Surely, system is OK, but why do we really have to?
In conclusion,
there is a NO REASON to use
scrubber system in ports(& maneuvering)!!
Recommended operation concept
